Tour of the Moscow Kremlin
The present day Kremlin dates from the late 15th century. It is almost as old as the unified Russian state with its centre in Moscow. Long before that time the city had been surrounded by earlier fortresses, first by wooden ones and starting from the second half of the 14th century by a white stone citadel. The word kremlin can be translated into English as "fortress around the city center".
For centuries the Kremlin has been the residence of political power. It is the place where all Russian tzars and emperors were coronated. Besides, for a very long time it was the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Kremlin is the only place in Moscow where one can see medieval Russian architecture that has survived up to the present moment.
Today the Kremlin plays several roles: it is the working and ceremonial residence of Russia's President and it is also a beautiful museum of history, architecture and applied art.
During the tour we will see the grounds of the Kremlin and its most remarkable buildings. We will have a chance to visit the coronation cathedral of all Russian rulers and the tzars' burial place.
