Day 1 (Rubavu/Gisenyi — Cyimbiri): Begin your expedition from Rubavu/Gisenyi, venturing into the heart of lakeside village life. Trek along the picturesque shores of Lake Kivu, passing fishing boats and traditional healing sites, until you reach the charming Cyimbiri church-built guesthouse nestled on the sandy beach.
Day 2 (Cyimbiri — Kinunu): Follow the trail alongside Lake Kivu, passing through Nkora fishing village and coffee plantations en route to Kinunu. Immerse yourself in the coffee-growing process and savor freshly brewed coffee, all while enjoying scenic views of the lake and nearby islands.
Day 3 (Kinunu — Bumba): Traverse the undulating countryside, crossing the Koko River and marveling at panoramic views of Lake Kivu. Arrive at Bumba, where stunning vistas of Kibuye/Karongi Bay await, setting the stage for new adventures.
Day 4 (Bumba — Karongi/Kibuye): After breakfast, set out for Karongi/Kibuye town, either by foot or via a scenic motorboat ride. Explore the only Museum of the Environment in Africa and embark on motorboat excursions to nearby islands, immersing yourself in the beauty of Lake Kivu.
Day 5: Enjoy a well-deserved break day in Kibuye town, soaking in the tranquility of your surroundings.
Day 6 (Karongi/Kibuye — Mugonero): Depart from Kibuye town, trekking along dirt roads beneath Mt Karongi. Marvel at the majestic Buhari waterfall and continue through Mubuga village towards Mugonero, where a unique sorghum experience awaits.
Day 7 (Mugonero — Karengera): Trek through hilly landscapes, admiring panoramic views and crossing rice plantations. Arrive at Karengera secondary school, your next base camp offering stunning views of Nyungwe National Park.
Day 8 (Karengera — Kumbya): Descend through village paths, enjoying views of Lake Kivu and the surrounding countryside. Spend the night at Kumbya Bay, surrounded by tranquility and natural beauty.
Day 9 (Kumbya — Nyamasheke): Follow the Karundura River, passing through Tyazo village and the Kamiranzovu Swamp en route to Ishara Beach Motel. Immerse yourself in pottery traditions and explore the vibrant Nyamasheke district.
Day 10 (Nyamasheke — Shangi): Trek through lush plantations and along the lake shores, soaking in the scenic beauty. Conclude your journey at Shangi Catholic Church, where memories of your adventure will linger.
Day 11 (Shangi — Rusizi): As you head towards Rusizi/Cyangugu town, marvel at breathtaking views of Bukavu across the border, marking the end of your remarkable journey.
