Tour of Kolomenskoye palace

Language English
Cost 85 USD for tour/excursion
Capacity Group of up to 5 people
Duration 1 hour

The original wooden palace was ordered by tzar Alexis in the 1660-s. The palace was used by the tzar as his country residence. It was a unique construction at that time, and it was called "the 8th wonder of the world".

In the rule of empress Catherine the Great the palace fell into disrepair and was dismantled. During the take-down architects made detailed drawings of the original building.

In the 2000-s the decision was taken to construct the palace anew, though several kilometers south of its initial location. In 2010 the restored palace was opened to the public. The area of the building is about 7000 square meters. Inside they recreated interiors of the past, such as the throne hall, the reception room, the waiting room, the tsar's study, the tsar's bedroom, the princes's rooms, the tzarina's chamber and even a steam bath!

The tour of the palace introduces the visitors to the way of life of the tzar family and to the long-established Russian cultural traditions. This tour is recommended for groups with children.

The price above includes entrance tickets to the palace for 5 people and the guide's services. The price will be smaller if there are fewer people in the group, or this tour is booked as part of a longer tour.
